According to its webpage, CryptoRome is a game of “strategy, politics, and war” set in Ancient Rome. Based on the Ethereum blockchain, it primarily allows players to make Ether as reward in an ongoing battle for supremacy.

The mechanics are simple: players must strengthen their army, conquer European lands, rise in power, and become the Caesar of CryptoRome.

Land, Resources, and Soldiers

Land plays an important role in the game. CryptoRome citizens originate from Italia. Each player enters the game by purchasing land, a unique digital asset on the Ethereum blockchain. In every piece of land, resources and soldiers are produced daily, which players can improve and use within CryptoRome. There are various levels of land in CryptoRome: plots, villages, towns, and cities.

Plots allow everyone to participate in the game. These have the least number of resources and soldiers, although they can be improved through various modifications. During game play, only one plot per account will be used to calculate military might and resources for the day. Villages, on the other hand, are the smallest unit of asset in CryptoRome, and create more resources and soldiers than plots.

Over time, players can modify and upgrade their villages, for example, by building roads and aqueducts, opening schools for archery and soldiers, and adding ornaments such as statues.

Players can also opt to combine villages and create a town. Towns are composed of three (3) villages and have more strength in terms of military forces compared to villages. However, the highest tier of land in Italia is called a city, which results from the combination of villages and towns.

Rising to Power in CryptoRome

Land and its resources within Italia, unless sold to other players, cannot be taken from a CryptoRome citizen. But land outside of Italia is where the allure of the game lies: each player is provided the opportunity to deploy their troops to different regions in Europe, namely, Hispania, Germania, Britannia, Gallia, and Pannonia. They formulate their own strategy in targeting lands that produce a resource which a player needs to complete an upgrade. Winners of every battle are determined by the strength of the troops a player has allocated to the block of land outside Italia. The results of the battle are published to the Ethereum blockchain everyday. Since this occurs on blockchain technology, these can neither be changed nor altered by other players.

As in politics, the more land you own, the greater the power you possess. Consequently, the player possessing the most land in a specific region outside Italia is given the title of senator for that region, while the player who has won the most European land, excluding those within Italia, becomes Caesar for the next 24 hours.

All transactions within the marketplace are charged with three-percent transaction fees or “taxes”, which are collected daily in CryptoRome. As reward for their victory, these taxes are deposited to the Ethereum wallets of the Senators and Caesar: one-percent is given directly to the Caesar for that day, while senators receive equally divided portions of the resource allocations.
