Mobile Game Featuring Blockchain-Based In-Game Assets to Launch in Late 2018

Chrono Games, the company behind upcoming mobile game Forest Knight, has announced plans to utilize the blockchain to integrate a real-world economy into the game. Slated for release later this year, Forest Knight is a turn-based strategy game for Android that allows players to embark on an adventure through the fantasy world of Chronville. Many of Forest Knight’s in-game characters and items will be crypto assets, similar to cryptocurrencies but more powerful as they are supported by a robust suite of smart contracts, giving them the full functionality of ordinary game items (and more).

Forest Knight will start as a single player adventure game in which players can explore, grind, and fight for in-game currency and gear to build their team with. Once the game is launched, Chrono Games aims to generate enough revenue to produce a PvP battle arena within Forest Knight, where players can test their team’s strength against other players and receive blockchain-based rewards from the realm's king.

Forest Knight is the fifth game to announce adoption of Enjin Coin’s blockchain development tools that enable developers to mint items using the highly acclaimed ERC-1155 token standard. Hailed as the next generation of blockchain technology, ERC-1155 will enable Chrono Games to mint hundreds of thousands of non-fungible items in bulk batches.

Items from Forest Knight will be tradable on the blockchain through third-party marketplaces and can be seen, managed, sent, and received using the Enjin Smart Wallet, which is set to be the first wallet to support ERC-20, ERC-721, and ERC-1155 tokens. Chrono Games will have the ability to monetize peer-to-peer markets by setting transaction fees on all trades of their items—even for transactions occurring on platforms that have no prior agreement or integration with Forest Knight.

This monetization strategy is made possible by the blockchain. Because all trades are executed by the blockchain, Enjin has coded smart contracts that can be added to items minted with their platform at the developer’s discretion. These smart contracts command the blockchain to allocate transaction fees based on parameters set by adopting developers, regardless of where the transaction takes place.

Chrono Games has revealed that they are in the later stages of development, with the alpha version of Forest Knight scheduled for release later this year. It will initially be released on Android and launched on iOS soon after.

Forest Knight is being built with Unity, the world’s largest game development platform and partner of Enjin. The Blockchain SDK by Enjin has been submitted to Unity and will be added to the front page of the Unity Asset Store once approved. Upon its release, the toolset will be heavily promoted by both companies to the 4.5 million developers that use the Unity game engine.
