VREX Lab, a South Korean augmented reality (AR) app developer, has announced its adoption of Enjin’s blockchain game development platform for Dyverse, a marketplace where users can collect and trade blockchain-based AR characters and items. Dyverse users will be able to interact with their ERC-721 and ERC-1155 blockchain items via VREX Lab’s mobile AR content creation app, Kydy, and other extensions.
A marketplace for 3D blockchain characters, Dyverse is currently live on Ethereum’s mainnet with ERC-721 support. It will soon be upgraded to support next-generation ERC-1155 assets, which will enable integration of items from all other games that utilize the token standard. With the synchronized Dyverse marketplace and Kydy app, users can buy 3D characters from the Dyverse and use them instantly in Kydy to create and share AR content.
Founded in 2016, VREX Lab was the first Korean VR/AR company to receive investments from notable global investors such as SOSV and Colopl Next. Deep tech investor Bluepoint Partners led the company’s seed round in 2017, while leading tech/blockchain accelerators from Silicon Valley such as Plug and Play and ETC Labs also selected VREX Lab for their programs.
VREX Lab and Enjin will work together to integrate Multiverse items into Kydy, the Dyverse marketplace, and other VREX Lab applications. This will give players the ability to use these characters, accessories, and weapons in 27 different games, as well as to create visual content from their interactions with these blockchain-powered assets using VREX Lab’s apps to share with friends and on social media.
“We’re delighted to embark on an exciting journey with Enjin” said VREX Lab CEO Rudy Lee. “The ability to have your favorite in-game items appear in front of you through our AR app is groundbreaking, while the ability to create videos with those AR assets and share them on social media takes this concept to a whole new level.”
VREX Lab also plans to work with other ERC-1155 adopters to integrate their most popular blockchain items into its suite of AR content creation apps. Such collaboration between VREX Lab and blockchain game developers could serve to break down the walls between virtual worlds and the physical realm—a kind of digital integration that has been described in pop culture as the metaverse.
Game developers seeking a fast and effective way to create and integrate blockchain-powered assets into their games will soon be able to use Enjin’s Blockchain Software Development Kit (SDK) for Unity. As the world’s largest game development platform, Unity has been used to make games that have been downloaded to over 770 million devices. Upon its public release, Unity will list the Blockchain SDK on the front page of its Asset Store, enabling 4.5 million game developers to mint ERC-1155 tokens and manage complex gameplay mechanics through transactions on the Ethereum blockchain.
To commemorate the launch of the Dyverse, VREX Lab has listed the marketplace on Product Hunt and is hosting a giveaway campaign offering 23 original rare Kydy AR characters from the Dyverse marketplace to people who follow Dyverse on Twitter (@Dyverseofficial) and tweet about what kind of AR characters they’d like to see next in the Dyverse. Tweets must include the hashtag #mykydy and will be accepted until February 17.
VREX Lab has also released a blog post with additional information about the Dyverse launch, the company’s future vision, and its adoption of the Enjin Platform. Further questions about the Dyverse and future plans regarding ERC-1155 tokens will be addressed in the Dyverse Telegram chat. When the Telegram channel reaches 1,000 members, VREX Lab will launch another giveaway featuring ERC-1155 tokens.
