CoinFest 2019 - April 1st - 7Th

CoinFest started in 2013 as a relatively small gathering of 100 or so Bitcoiners, celebrating the adoption of Bitcoin at a Waves Coffee House in Vancouver. It was conceived as a way to incentivize cryptocurrency acceptance while educating the public about its importance and use. Its popular success prompted the Bitcoiniacs to place the world’s first Bitcoin ATM there, which CoinFest again celebrated.

By 2014, CoinFest was growing in popularity, and that year it took a new direction: CoinFest spread across Canada and now internationally, exemplifying the border-defying and decentralized nature of crypto. Vancouver lead the way again by booking multiple venues simultaneously for a less centrally organized variety of exhibits, as Satoshi would have wanted. In 2015, CoinFest spread worldwide, and new ground was broken in Latin America and Europe. CoinFestIt's about that time of year, again, where cryptocurrency enthusiasts around the world unite in thanks and celebration. It's been a long, hard winter for us all, but now is the time to put our differences and troubles aside and remember the great teachings of Satoshi.

For those who aren't in the know, CoinFest is an annual decentralized convention that occurs simultaneously around the world. Run by volunteers as a non-profit and funded by generous sponsors, it has always been free to attend and always will be. It also only holds crypto assets and occurs at venues that accept or support cryptocurrency (such as by accepting it for payments).

Vancouver is the birthplace of CoinFest and participates every year. This year, CoinFest have a couple different events lined up with very different themes, and CoinFest encourage anyone to attend!

Crypto Bounties Panel

As usual, the DCTRL community is planning to organize its own dedicated event for CoinFest at the local hack space. They use a bounty system to enable decentralized upkeep of their space, automatically incentivizing chores such as taking out the garbage or doing the dishes. They believe this will be a growing phenomenon as traditional employment shifts toward the "gig economy," and have invited experts from Gitcoin, Bounties Network and others for a discussion. Meet us on April 3, 7 PM at 436 West Pender Street. Crypto Onboarding Panel

BitNational has made their office available to us as a venue for CoinFest. A panel discussion will be held on the best methods of converting new users from fiat to cryptocurrency. Attendees will gain valuable insights from Bitcoin brokers, exchangers and ATM operators, such as HoneyBadger, Coinsquare, and of course our host. Thanks to Ed of Vancouver Crypto Network for organizing; meet us on April 5 , 7 PM at 1525 West Broadway.

Blockchain Gaming Expo

CoinFest Vancouver does something with blockchain gaming every year, as several of its volunteer organizers work for www.blockchaingaming.com. This year will be something truly special, however, with unprecedented support from an industry that's grown enormously.

CoinFest having a 1-day convention near Olympic Village Station at the Beaumont Studios, a trendy space for artists and events that is now experimenting with cryptocurrency. On the premises you'll find the Cazba food truck, which will be accepting Bitcoin for delicious Mediterranean cuisine, and inside will be booths and presentations by blockchain companies.

Some of them will be local companies that might be familiar to you. Most, however, will be blockchain gaming companies who have traveled to Vancouver for this event! Expect to see, hear about, and play lots of blockchain-based video games; there will also be tournaments including Poker with crypto-themed playing cards and Lightning Network Chess.
