Pokemon and Tamagotchi Inspired Blockchain universe brings immersive gameplay to Ethereum

Axie Infinity, one of the most popular Ethereum-based games, has released its ground-breaking battle system on Ethereum mainnet. With the launch of the battle system, Axie Infinity has successfully deployed a long-awaited feature that brings direct player-to-player gameplay to the blockchain.

This summer, Axie Infinity held an extensive beta test for the battle system where hundreds of testers racked up more than 20,000 battles. The test culminated in a live tournament where 16 finalists competed for ETH and tokenized prizes. In the coming months, the team plans on porting the battle system onto Loom Network’s plasma chain, which will enable seamless gameplay and reduced transaction fees.

Axie Infinity is a digital pet community where players can battle, raise, collect, and breed fantasy creatures called Axies. Each Axie has unique genetic data stored on the Ethereum blockchain. There are hundreds of body parts, each with their own associated battle moves. The developers plan to release a PVE story mode and terrariums-- customizable living environments for Axies, in the coming months.

The game sold more than 3000 Axies, raising over 900 ETH during its initial game asset offering. To date, over 700 ETH has been spent on Axies in the player to player market and Axies have sold for figures as high as 25 ETH.
