Axie Infinity and Loom Network Alliance

Axie inifity announced earlier this week a collaboration with Loom Network.

Loom’s tech will allow Axie to make the game they've always wanted to play — without worrying about the current limitations of Ethereum and without making huge security tradeoffs for scalability.

What is Loom Network? Loom Network is building a fundamental infrastructure platform to help Ethereum scale.

It allows developers to run large-scale applications and is the first Ethereum scaling solution to be live in production. What’s more, they are also working on building bridges to different blockchains, which means that we can eventually support YOUR favourite blockchain.

This means that applications built on LOOM can be fast but also benefit from the security of the Ethereum base-layer. What is Axie Infinity? Axie Infinity is a digital pet universe with a mission of accelerating blockchain adoption. Pioneering and implementing bleeding-edge technical solutions that drive forward the evolution and accessibility of player-driven economies.

Axie trainers can battle, raise, collect, and breed fantasy creatures called Axies. Think of it as a player-owned/driven combination of Tamogochi, Neopets, and Pokemon.

Recently, the Axie team raised over 3,500 ETH to build Lunacia, an open-world with a land system that will unlock gameplay allowing players to attack resource “nodes” to harvest in-game currencies as well as tokens from partnered projects. In addition, land in Lunacia will serve as a launchpad for user-generated content — allowing 3rd party developers to natively integrate their creations and experiences into the Axie universe.

Axie Loom Validator Axie Infinity will be acting as a validator on the LOOM Network. Validators are in charge of making sure that all of the transactions on the blockchain they oversee are valid and correct.

Loom Network uses a consensus mechanism called delegated proof of stake. This is a system where key stakeholders(validators) lock in a portion of Loom tokens, representing their “stake” in the network. Because the number of validators is relatively small, it takes less time to reach consensus than on a blockchain like bitcoin or the current implementation of the Ethereum base layer. This speed is what allows fast, smooth dapps to run on Loom!
